Competitions

We asked you to send us your Drabbles (a short story in precisely 100 words, not including the title) and you didn’t disappoint! This was an open genre competition so you could let your imagination run wild. One lucky winner received £10 and publication on Pocket Fiction (check out the winning story, ‘Java Palaver’ by Tony Spencer below!).

JAVA PALAVER

I was sipping my coffee

When, convulsed by a coughie,

I spluttered all over my toast!

My butter and marmalade rye

Was launched from the table up high

And crash landed, bread side uppermost.

To add to the palarver

That hot freshly-brewed Java,

Tsunami’d up my nose as well!

I “uh, uh, uh,” for a bit—

Afflicted by a sneezin’ fit—

Brown cloud ascends, while coffee cup fell!

I went off like a klaxon,

Curse words in Anglo-Saxon

Echoed from my brekkie room walls!

My physog and other parts flushed,

On my PJs hot coffee gushed,

Which scalded my unmentionables!
